Oscar de la Renta Adds His Touch to Beats By Dre Headphones
Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has given Dr. Dre's popular Beats By Dre headphones a luxe makeover and PETA is far from pleased. The new limited-edition set is covered in plum-hued silver fox fur and features ControlTalk, hands-free calling, a travel case and a one-year warranty. And the headphones don't come cheap — they're being sold for a whopping $695.
The use of fox fur was obviously going to catch the attention of animal rights group PETA and a representative for the organization has already sent a letter to Dr. Dre requesting he stop using real fur and exotic animal skins on his products.
"With so many fashionable, cruelty-free materials available these days, we hope that you will keep animals in mind and choose not to use fur or exotic skins in your collection," Michelle Cho wrote. "You have a tremendous amount of influence on young people — won't you please consider using your platform to advocate kindness toward animals by pledging never to design with real fur and exotic skins?"
Dre's camp has yet to respond, but what do you think of the furry headphones?
