Dr. Dre's Compton Takes No. 2 Spot on Billboard Album Chart
New release debuts with 295,000 copies sold in a week, 25 million streams.
With Straight Outta Compton’s record-breaking debut and his Compton album fairing well on the charts, the month of August belongs to Dr. Dre.
Compton lands at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 295,000 units, 265,000 of which account for pure album sales.
Though country star Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights beat Dre for first place, the Beats mogul should congratulate himself for a substantial charts showing. Especially since Compton came on such short notice and was streamed 25 million times.
Royalties from the new album will be donated to fund a performing arts center in Compton.
