Obama Hosts White House Science Fair

Young innovators show off their award-winning projects to the president.

President Obama hosted the third annual White House Science Fair Monday where 100 students from around the country presented their award-winning projects in science, technology, engineering and math. Included in the exhibitions were heat-detecting pads for football players, a prosthetic arm made from 3D printer parts and a pedal-powered water filtration system.
Obama spoke with the youngsters commending them on their work before announcing that AmeriCorps national service members will team up with nonprofit groups in math, science, technology and engineering to encourage students to pursue these fields.
"We celebrate our great football players…and we celebrate outstanding musicians, and that's all appropriate," Obama said. "But we've got to make sure that we're also celebrating, every single day in our schools, in our classrooms and in our country, the outstanding contributions that scientists and engineers and mathematicians and engineers are providing to us every single day."
"We want you to know that you've got a whole country behind you as you pursue your dreams," he said. "And your success is going to be our success, as well.  So, way to go."
