Men and Women Sound Off On Think Like a Man
BET.com recently went on a barber shop and salon tour to ask men and women what they really thought about Think Like a Man. While some appreciated author Steve Harvey's honesty, others were annoyed that he spilled the rules of the game.
"I don't know what to say about this, man," fashion stylist Dramion Coombs says. "Since I heard he'd come out with a book, I would not pay for none of his shows, none of that. I'm not supporting him no more. This is selling the game for $23.99!"
When it came to Harvey's 90-day rule that women should wait three months before sleeping with a new partner, some felt that getting to know each other and conversing is just as important — with some women saying that if the man really wants their "cookie," he'd wait. Men, on the other hand, laughed off the notion saying the wait is more like three days long and that women know from the first date if she'd sleep with the guy or not.
"Steve, that's so prehistoric. Pre-his-to-ric," says Ron Summers, a barber at the Harlem Berry Beauty Lounge. "Ninety days, really? In 2012? Ninety days? Come on, now we've got computers."
Waiting for your man to pop the question? Well the guys had a few words of truth to share about the topic, too.
"To get a ring from a man? Real talk, not ask for one, say you don't want it," suggests Mack Jacksonn at the Harlem Berry Beauty Lounge. "A lot of women out here, they can get any man they want. Their problem is they can't keep them."
Some women described marriage as a mental and spiritual decision that shouldn't be rushed and is successful when both partners share things and nurture each other.
"It's not money that makes a relationship or what kind of car you drive or who makes your clothes or what kind of champagne you drink. Those things aren't really important," says actress Marcella Lowery. "What's important is between the one you choose and who chooses you that you make it work and not compare it to everybody else's relationship or what everybody else has. It's just you two right?"
Watch the video to hear what else men and women had to say about online dating, texting and words of wisdom from the married set.
