Oklahoma City Thunder Fire Coach Scott Brooks
The Oklahoma City Thunder have fired head coach Scott Brooks.
Yahoo Sports is reporting that Thunder general manager Sam Presti traveled to California on Wednesday to break the news to Brooks in person. The news comes after Brooks led the Thunder to a winning 45-37 record, but they failed to reach the postseason for the first time in six years. Although sources tell Yahoo Sports that Presti's decision had more to do with the future of the organization and not just this season's body of work.
University of Florida coach Billy Donovan is already being named as a serious candidate to take the Thunder's head coaching position. Yahoo Sports is also reporting that the Thunder will give top consideration to UConn's Kevin Ollie.
The Thunder were hampered by injuries to Kevin Durant, who only played in 27 games this season, and Serge Ibaka. Still, they managed to vie for the eighth and final playoff spot behind Russell Westbrook's 11 triple-doubles, before losing the final spot to the New Orleans Pelicans on the last day of the regular season last week.
The news isn't all negative for Brooks, who Yahoo Sports says will immediately be considered for the vacant Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets coaching gigs.
