We're not ashamed to admit that there's something about a bold lippie that intimidates us.

Our never-ending skin glow up quest sometimes makes us fear a bold lip will bring even more attention to the often spotty, dottie elements of our face. That was a gentle (and cute) way of us saying our incessant acne f**ks with us in a multitude of ways — including making us shy away from any red-toned "bold" makeup that could accentuate our unwanted spots.

Rihanna, a role model if there ever was one, has taught us so much throughout the years. A veritable fashion and beauty risk taker, she's influenced us to step out of our comfort zones. RiRi's high-risk, high-reward looks are not for wallflowers. But then again, makeup is meant to be impactful, no? And the fact that some of Rih's boldest makeup looks are synonymous with her best looks of all time is a testament to her naturally spunky propensity paying off.

Not many would encourage an entirely purple facebeat, but of course it works on Rihanna (what doesn't though!). Both her Elle Magazine cover and the follow up iridescent look at London's Fenty Launch were completely unexpected, even to us jaded beauty junkies. But her wild child ways just continue to forge broader trends.

With the news that Pantone's Color of the Year (COY) for 2018 is Ultra Violet, some cultural critics are already pointing to RiRi as a possible trailblazer in and inspiration for the bold COY choice.

Just last week, she doubled down on seasonably dark makeup with a striking dark indigo lip color, which contrasted quite nicely with that huge new rock on her ring finger. Since we know RiRi teases new Fenty Beauty products way ahead of the launch, we can't help but wonder if this new true blue will be FB's next hue — after all, a cheeky "Navy" product would fit right in with the company's oeuvre.
