Tony Gwynn Jr. Hits Walk-Off Single on Father's Day
This one's for you, dad.
Tony Gwynn Jr. had to have his dad's memory weighing heavy on his heart when he hit a walk-off single to lead the Syracuse Chiefs to a 1-0 victory over the Buffalo Bisons on Father's Day on Sunday.
Gwynn Jr., 32, and Major League Baseball fans endured the loss of all-time baseball great Tony Gwynn on June 16, 2014, the day after Father's Day. Gwynn lost his four-year bout with cancer, which he believed was caused by his longtime use of chewing tobacco during his playing days with the San Diego Padres. Gwynn was 54.
What a moment it must have been for Gwynn Jr. to hit a game-winning single on Father's Day and salute his dad, whom everybody loved.
The Syracuse Chiefs are the Triple-A minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
