Jay-Z Explains Samsung Album Deal
Jay-Z was feeling a little talkative today (June 17). With a new album — Magna Carta Holy Grail — out next month, the usually Twitter quiet mogul took to the social networking site for a mini rant, promoting his new project and that of the other Roc Nation team members.
For starts, the unprecedented deal with mobile phone giant Samsung, who dropped over a million to grab the rights to the music, changes the way in which artists release music. Although the sales method is unconventional, Jay tweeted about making his own rules. "Ok that was my yearly allotment see ya'll 2014..#newrules #magnacartaholygrail."
Samsung reportedly paid $5 for each of the 1 million albums it plans to give away to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users for free, 72 hours before the album's official release. The music will be streamed via an app, to be unveiled later this month.
As the leader of The Roc, the Brooklyn native isn't the only one making "new rules," which he also tweeted. "Kanye West 'lead single' projected on buildings worldwide #newrules #magnacartaholygrail" he wrote. "J. Cole app for listening session. Don't talk just listen…#newrules" and "Wale up next week #newrules."
Joking about his lack of communication skills online, the 43-year-old quipped, "Ok that was my yearly allotment see ya'll 2014 #newsrules #nagacartaholygrail."
With so many hands in the music pot, Jay has the summer sewn up on all facets. Projects from 'Ye and Cole are both out tomorrow (June 18), Wale's The Gifted is set for a June 25 release and Magna Carta Holy Grail drops July 4.
