Beyoncé Turned Down Collaboration With Coldplay, Saying 'This Is Awful'
With countless memes circulating donning slogans such as “Apparently there’s some football game during the Beyoncé concert this Sunday,” Coldplay’s Chris Martin overall has been a good sport. While Coldplay headlined the halftime performance yesterday (Feb. 7) many have since taken to Twitter to talk about how Bey put on her cape to save the show alongside Bruno Mars.
It’s probably the most nerve-wracking task on the planet to share a spotlight with someone as incredible a performer as Bey, but also high on the list is facing rejection from the queen herself. Again, Martin is a good sport.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the frontman talked about working alongside Beyoncé for Super Bowl 50, admitting that Beyoncé had once before turned down the opportunity to be featured on Coldplay’s song “Hook Up.”
“In the sweetest possible way: She told me, ‘I really like you — but this is awful,” Martin revealed in the interview.
It recently surfaced that David Bowie had also turned down collaborating with Martin in the past, saying, “It's not one of your best.” Honesty is the best policy, but coming from Beyoncé and Bowie alike... ouch.
Beyoncé did team up with Martin and the group on track “Hymn for the Weekend,” but they didn’t go with the seemingly obvious choice to perform their collaborative song for their live performance, leaving fans curious as to why.
