Tuskegee University Student Suddenly Collapses On Campus And Dies
The family of a young woman from Cincinnati who collapsed and died is still mourning her mysterious death.
Nyra Shaw-Hemphill was on campus at Tuskegee University in Alabama, where she was majoring in animal, poultry and veterinary science, when she suddenly collapsed Thursday (October 3).
The sophomore was rushed to East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika where she was pronounced dead shortly after.
“I called Nyra, and in the background, I could hear them screaming, ‘She’s gone, she’s gone,’” Shaw-Hemphill’s great-aunt, Judy Anthony, told WLWT5.
The 20-year-old was living out her dream of becoming a veterinarian and graduating from the university, like others in her family.
“She had a very beautiful spirit,” Anthony said. “She was beautiful inside and out.”
The young woman’s cause of death has not been released.
A memorial service is set to take place on Wednesday (October 9) at noon in Tuskegee.
