Michael Jordan Personally Requested A Pair of Off-White x Air Jordan 1s
If you’re a politician, a congratulatory call from the president could be one of your career highlights. If you’re a fashion designer who also deals in sneaker collabs, a nod from Michael Jordan is nothing less than priceless.
That’s what happened to Virgil Abloh recently. The Kanye West affiliate and Off-White brand creator had been sending out customized pairs of the Off-White x Air Jordan 1 to friends and family, and the Bulls great wanted in on the action.
No Vacancy Inn co-founder Tremaine Emory shared the gifting story with ShowStudio during the latest episode of Best in Show. He described how the collabo sneaker landed at MJ’s doorstep.
“I wish time travel existed, and you could go back and be like, ‘Virgil, 16-year-old, 18-year-old Virgil, you’re going to have a collab with Nike one day, with Jordans,” Emory said. “And then Michael Jordan is going to text Nike and say I need a pair of those, and you gotta sign a pair to him.’”
Jay-Z, Drake and Roger Federer have also received pairs of the customized exclusive sneaker. The Off-White x Nike Collection will begin releasing at NikeLab NYC next weekend.
