  • GloRilla surprises Memphis High School with massive donation

    Memphis-born rapper GloRilla gave back to her alma mater in a major way this week, surprising Melrose High School with a generous donation of $25,000. The funds will go toward a new library aimed at promoting literacy not just at Melrose but also across the Orange Mound community. Once completed, the library will be renamed the Gloria H. Woods Media Center in her honor.

    The "Yeah Glo!" hitmaker did some property shopping of her own in her hometown.

  • Master P delivers a powerful speech to Grambling State graduates

    Master P inspired 365 Grambling State graduates with a powerful keynote at their 2024 commencement on Saturday (Dec 14). “A lot of people give years to incarceration; y’all gave it to education,” he said, celebrating their achievement. 

    Encouraging resilience, he quoted Proverbs: “Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you.” Closing with, “The future is yours… show the world what Grambling State greatness looks like,” the rapper-entrepreneur urged them to embrace their potential.

  • TDE’s Christmas Concert Raises $750K in Toys and Clothes Donations

    Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) marked its 20th anniversary with the 11th annual Christmas Concert and Toy Drive at Nickerson Gardens in Watts. The two-day event drew over 10,000 attendees and raised $750,000 in toys and clothing for local families. 

    Day one featured performances by TDE artists like SZA, Jay Rock, and Isaiah Rashad, with surprise appearances from Kendrick Lamar and GloRilla. Day two focused on giving back with a toy giveaway, raffles, sports clinics, and festive activities.

    Good news for former NFL quarterback Michael Vick, who has been appointed head football coach at Norfolk State University, marking his first head coaching position. 

    Vick will replace Dawson Odums, who was dismissed after compiling a 15-31 record over four seasons.

    Set in the luxurious affluent Black community of Fairmont Crest, just outside Washington, D.C., the story centers on the prestigious Dupree family, led by former senator Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and his wife Anita (Tamara Tunie), a former singer. With themes of power, legacy, and family dynamics, the show introduces daughters Nicole, a high-achieving psychiatrist, and Dani, a free-spirited momager.

  • Montell Jordan opens up about cancer diagnosis and recovery

    R&B legend Montell Jordan recently revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year but has since recovered, emphasizing the importance of early detection and regular screenings. 

    Now cancer-free, Montell is using his platform to advocate for men's health and encourage others to prioritize wellness.

    Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson took center stage in a surprising new way this week, making her Broadway debut in “& Juliet” on December 14, 

    Reflecting on the moment she fulfilled a decades-long dream, she told CBS's Gayle King, “It means anything is possible,” highlighting her journey from district court justice to the nation’s highest court and now the Broadway stage.
