Rock the Bells Cancels Remaining Dates
Rock the Bells canceled the remaining stops in Washington, D.C. and the New York area due to low ticket sales, a source told XXL. The dates were rumored to be cut after they were removed from the Ticketmaster website, causing a stir online. Staffers at the D.C. venue verified that the planned two-day event was scrapped and eventually confirmation came from RTB founder Chang Weisenberg.
“First and foremost, it is with great sadness and disappointment that we must cancel the Washington, D.C. and New York City Rock the Bells dates due to lack of ticket sales," Weisenberg said in a statement. "I, along with our staff, the artists, and all of the sponsors, media partners, local promoters, and radio stations involved are thankful for our supporters and the fans that planned on attending.
"It’s extremely unfortunate that we can’t complete the last half of the 10th Anniversary Rock the Bells tour. We did everything in our power to save the show. Unfortunately, the financial loss would have been devastating. I am truly sorry we could not produce the show for all the fans who did buy their ticket in support of.”
The traveling festival, which has been a much respected staple event for hip hop listeners since its beginnings in 2004, is expecting to take a $3 million hit from the ill-fated run. It launched Sept. 7 this year, in San Bernardino, Calif., with hologram performances from Ol' Dirty Bastard and Eazy E.
Kendrick Lamar, Dom Kennedy, Wu-Tang Clan and Juicy J were among the live acts on the bill.
Ticket refunds will be honored.
