Iggy Azalea Doesn't Think She Should Be Target of Macklemore's 'White Privilege II', Agrees with Message
Macklemore landed a few blows recently when he released “White Privilege II”, a reflection about the perceived social benefits of being a white man, and also a slight at Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea.
Iggy did react on Twitter shortly after the song’s drop, but didn’t seem to take the bait as far as truly firing back at the Seattle rapper. TMZ recently caught up with Azalea and asked her if she thinks her career is a product of white privilege.
“I think it's impossible for everybody not to take influence from everybody,” the Australian rapper said in reply to claims that she too often takes from hip hop but doesn’t give back. "I think all culture takes from all culture. We're so global now I think it's impossible for everybody not to take influence from everybody."
She confirmed that she doesn’t believe she should’ve been mentioned in the song but does agree in instances of white privilege. Macklemore recently told Rolling Stone why he included Iggy Azalea in “White Privilege II”, explaining that in the world we live in when it comes to culture and music, he and her are a product of an unfair advantage.
“I think that people get put into boxes, and the conversation around cultural appropriation - I was at the forefront of that, rightfully so,” he explained. “And that conversation also included Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea, and that's why their names are on the record."
Macklemore is slated to drop his next album with Ryan Lewis next month. This Unruly Mess I've Made eyes a February 26 release. “White Privilege II” is the follow-up to Mack’s 2005 song of the same name.
