Why Nia Long Says It Was Exciting To Have A Baby After 40
After her first son, doctors told Nia Long that having more children would be challenging. However, she was able to give her birth to her second son after the age of 40 as she celebrates Black motherhood.
Long, 52, says being a mom of two is a “pretty exciting” thing, as she shared in a recent interview with The Cut, especially after being informed by doctors about the difficulty in having children after her first son.
She shares her 11-year-old son Kez Sunday Udoka with ex-fiancé Ime Udoka and 22-year-old son Massai Zhivago Dorsey II with ex-fiancé Massai Z. Dorsey.
I thought if it was meant to be, it would happen and I wasn’t going to worry about it either way,” she said in the interview released on Feb. 10. “When it happened, it was pretty exciting.”
Long holds on to remaining transparent and having important conversations about women’s health.
“I think we should talk about it. We should talk about menopause. We should talk about what happens when you’re of a certain age and your body changes. Let’s remove ‘anti-aging’ and talk about what you can put into your body to preserve your quality of life.”
Long has been highlighted in the media for her divorce with Ime Udoka, who were together for 13 years. Now as a single mother, her “main focus” is parenting her two sons.
“I have old-school ways, and I have new-school ways, and I’m still figuring it out. I’ve made plenty of mistakes as a mother. I’ve learned about myself through my parenting. Do I have regrets? Of course. But they’re not regrets that were life-changing and devastating.”
