Kyle Rittenhouse Shooting Victim Makes Shocking Admission During Trial
Kyle Rittenhouse is currently on trial for fatally shooting two people and wounding a third during a demonstration over the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The lone survivor took the stand today (Nov. 7) and revealed he was pointing a gun at Rittenhouse.
According to the Associated Press, Gaige Grosskreutz, a protester and volunteer medic, admitted to unintentionally pointing a gun at the 17-year-old.
“I thought the defendant was an active shooter,” Grosskreutz said on the stand. He also said as Rittenhouse got closer, the 27-year-old thought he “was going to die.”
Rittenhouse fired at Grosskreutz, shooting into his arm, tearing apart his bicep. When asked by prosecutor Thomas Binger why he didn’t shoot Rittenhouse first, he responded, “That’s not the kind of person that I am. That’s not why I was out there. It’s not who I am and definitely not somebody I would want to become.”
During cross-examination, Rittenhouse’s defense lawyer asked, "It wasn't until you pointed your gun at him, advanced on him — that he fired, right?"
"Correct," Grosskreutz replied. He maintained he did not mean to point his gun at the teenager.
Prosecutors have accused Rittenhouse of setting the violence in motion by confronting a man and then shooting him in the back, according to The Associated Press. Rittenhouse has said he traveled with an assault rifle from his home in Illinois to Kenosha to protect property from people protesting the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Rittenhouse’s legal team claim he acted in self-defense
Dominick Black, who was dating Rittenhouse’s sister, was the first witness. He’s charged with purchasing the rifle for Rittenhouse, who at 17 was too young to legally purchase a weapon.
Black testified that he went to Kenosha with Rittenhouse to protect a car dealership from rioters. He was on the rooftop when Rittenhouse fired his weapon in the street. Black said Rittenhouse told him that “people were trying to kill him.”
Rittenhouse, now 18, has been charged with two counts of homicide. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
Jacob Blake is still in recovery and battling paralysis.
