Morgan Freeman: Legalize Marijuana Across the Board
While promoting his new starring role opposite Diane Keaton in the film, 5 Flights Up, Morgan Freeman reflected upon his Oscar-winning acting skills, and revealed that he's actually a better actor than anyone imagined. Or, perhaps it was the weed.
For seven years Freeman's been in a great deal of pain, unbeknownst to the public, he told The Daily Beast. He was in a made-for-Hollywood car wreck when his '97 Nissan flipped over multiple times, and he had to be rescued with the Jaws of Life.
Although doctors operated on Freeman's then-shattered arm, shoulder, and elbow, he said, he's never fully recovered.
“I have fibromyalgia pain in this [left] arm, and the only thing that offers any relief is marijuana," Freeman explained. Is that anything like Glaucoma? He didn't say, but he did mention, "They’re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they’ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says, ‘Legalize it across the board!’"
More states, and the nation's capital, in recent years seems to agree with Freeman's idea of weed being a "normalizer" (or at least a money-maker). “This movement is really a long time coming," he added, "and it’s getting legs — longer legs."
Elsewhere in the interview, Freeman, 77, talks about another culture shift that's affected his wellness: gentrification.
5 Flights Up, which he also executive produced, is in theatres now.
