See Inside The Soulful Home of Jon Batiste And His Wife Suleika Jaouad
In the November issue of Architectural Digest, we experience the enchanting fusion of music, art, and love as we delve into the soul-filled residence of Jon Batiste and Suleika Jaouad, capturing the essence of their shared journey.
This powerhouse couple has achieved great success in their respective careers. Batiste is a Grammy-winning musician, while Jaouad is a best-selling author. They wanted a home reflecting their love of music, art, and each other. After viewing 70 properties, they found an 1890s Brooklyn Italianate they fell in love with. They worked with interior designer Hallie Goodman to create a soul-filled home that blended their Tunisian and New Orleanian roots.
In the article, Jaouad wrote, "We began to meld Tunisia and New Orleans into a style we call 'Tunisiana,' an homage to our shared Francophone and African roots. We wanted a home that felt soulful, timeless, and elegant, with a playful twist."
The tour of their home chronicles the couple's journey, recounting their challenges, notably Suleika's cancer relapse, which occurred amid the ongoing renovations. The creatives also got married in their living room during that process.
For the wedding, Goodman, their friend and designer, helped clear the first floor of construction debris and filled it with flowers and candles, transforming it into a romantic setting. Fried chicken sandwiches and champagne were served to the small group of guests. Batiste serenaded Jaouad on a grand piano he rented for the night, providing the perfect musical accompaniment for the special occasion.
The home also features a pink kitchen designed with a nod to the New Orleanian fondness for vibrant tones, carefully selected antiques, North African pottery, textiles, and rugs, and the vintage millwork graces the entire dwelling. The home looks like a true work of art.
