Tiger Woods Announces Return To Golf Less Than A Year After Accident
Tiger Woods is making his return to the golf course less than a year after he was involved in a serious car accident.
USA Today reports the 15-time major champion will tee it up alongside his son, Charlie, next week in the 2021 PNC Championship.
The father-son event is slated to be held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando from December 16-19. Charlie stole the show at the 2020 event.
Woods has been teasing his return to golf for a few weeks now, most recently rocking his trademark Sunday red during a practice session during the final round of his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. He also tweeted about his return.
“Although it’s been a long and challenging year, I am very excited to close it out by competing in the @PNCchampionship with my son Charlie,” wrote Woods. “I’m playing as a Dad and couldn’t be more excited and proud.”
“I think it’s very positive,” fellow PGA Tour golfer Jason Day said of Woods’ return, according to USA Today. “I’m just as excited as everyone else when it comes to watching him swing a golf club. I think it’s just a little farther away from him tournament ready and playing on the PGA Tour again if he can than most people think.
"Playing in the PNC is another encouraging sign,” he added. “When that first video came out, it was still that Tiger swing everyone knows. It’s great to see.”
Woods joined the broadcast booth during Saturday’s third round coverage of the Hero World Challenge and discussed his progress and Charlie’s performance at the 2020 PNC Championship.
“He carried me, no doubt,” Woods said. “It’s short for Charlie, it’s not short from where I’m playing. I’ve got to hit it from back there with Justin (Thomas). And I’m hitting it half as far as he does.”
