Pharrell Defends Comments About T.I.'s Paperwork
With the release of his second studio album, G I R L, and multiple 2015 Grammy nominations, it's safe to say that Pharrell had a huge 2014. Aside from working on his own projects, a large chunk of his success came from producing records for others, with one of the most recent being Paperwork by Atlanta rapper T.I. After criticizing the project in his cover story for GQ, the singer has decided to clarify his comments on Twitter.
Speaking with the magazine for the February 2015 issue, the "Happy" singer spoke candidly on Tip's album. "They did that record hoping for radio play, and they got nothing out of it," he said. "Great, you got your No. 1 hip hop song. But what does that do for your sales?... Go ahead. Blend in."
After receiving criticism from the "Live Your Life" emcee's fans on social media, Pharrell took to Twitter to explain and even promoted T.I.'s latest project in the process. "Let me clear up this GQ interview: I love T.I.'s album, he is a GENIUS," he tweeted. "There was a diff single more appropriate for the current temp in society... But don't get it twisted, the single STILL went #1. Pick up TI's Paperwork album."
