Shark Tank Recruiting Entrepreneurs of Color at NAACP Convention
Popular ABC series Shark Tank is holding auditions at the NAACP Convention in Philadelphia this weekend in search of entrepreneurs of color to be featured in its upcoming season. Casting directors have invited businesses to deliver their pitches at the 2015 NAACP Convention. The NAACP partnership follows two casting calls that took place in Washington, D.C. The show traveled to the District to “identify more diverse companies.”
A few months ago, Christopher Gray pitched his idea to the panel of investors to the tune of $40,000 for a 15 percent stake in the company.
The young entrepreneur is the CEO of Scholly, a mobile app that connects students to scholarships. He received an immediate offer from Lori Greiner with Daymond John following suit. At the end of his pitch, he left with more than what he asked for. After the episode aired, the app skyrocketed to the top of the iTunes App Store and remained there for about a week.
