Commentary: Is Tropical Storm Isaac a Democrat or Republican?

When it was announced that the schedule for the Republican National Convention was shifting because of Tropical Storm Isaac I coudn't help but wonder if Isaac was a Democrat.
After all, this week was supposed to be Mitt Romney's time to shine. Romney and his surrogates were going to take to the national stage and explain why it was important for voters to make a change on Nov. 6 and get rid of President Obama. It was supposed to be Romney's "look at me" moment.
But after years of planning, the convention is now on track to being a footnote to the storm that has already wreaked havoc in Haiti and Cuba. The conversation has shifted from policy to the weather without the Democrats having to lift a finger or produce an attack ad. They must be pretty pleased with nature.
Tampa, where the convention is being held, could get pounded by Isaac. And the threat of danger prompted the GOP to cancel the first day of the convention, making it just three days instead of four.
Loosely translated, Isaac means He will laugh. Not to get all religious about this, because that just isn't me, but as I sit in my hotel room here in rainy Tampa, listening to a GOP conference call about the convention changes, I am reminded of the phrase "If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans."
It is doubtful that anyone is laughing at GOP headquarters, but the folks in Charlotte surely must be.
