Hip Hop Awards ‘20: The Funniest Moments From The 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards
The 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards stood out as one the funniest in recent memory. It’s no surprise, considering comedian Lil Duval served as the host. He contributed to some choice moments in hip-hop related comedy that made viewers crack up at home. And with 85 South — a comedy group made up of Chico Bean, Karlous Miller, and DC Young Fly — hosting this year’s festivities that kick off on Oct 27, you can bet that this year will be every bit as hilarious as last year’s was.
Before the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards kick off in a few weeks, BET thought that it would be cool — and hilarious — to recap the funniest moments of the 2019 ceremony, digging through the two-hour event to pull out the funniest, most memorable bits.
Check out our picks for most hilarious 2019 moments below.
Lil Duval Making The “Black Men Don’t Cheat” Chant Holy
Making fun of Kanye not being the best piano player in the world, Lil Duval stood in front of a keyboard, surrounded by eager to explain testifiers, explaining what the meaning of the comedian’s “Black Men Don’t Cheat” catchphrase was. The hilarious segment featured the group of men with their fists raised, exclaiming this as loud as they could
City Boys Taking The Final L Of The Night
Throughout the night, Lil Duval was keeping score of whether the City Boys or Hot Girls were winning the long-running battle to come out on top of the summer (remember pre-COVID life?). Just as it looked as if the City Boys were going to win, Lil Duval revealed that they lost at the buzzer thanks to, none other than, Tekashi 69. Welp. There’s no arguing with that.
The Comedy Cypher’s Hilarious Verses
What do you get when you put together Karlous Miller, Chico Bean, Jess Hilarious, Affion Crockett, and Lil Duval? The answer is the funniest cypher that you’ll ever experience. Last year’s comedy cypher held no stops, going on all out with the bars from all of its attendance. But each joker made their flexes uniquely hilarious — like Miller, for instance, who rapped that he wanted to conduct mammograms. I bet you can guess why.

The Battle Rap Match For The Ages
Battle rap is funny, in a serious way. Two people scream until their faces are blue about how much better they are than each other, with the better of them usually having the funnier bars that you remember. T-Top and Shotgun Shug had a battle for the ages at last year’s awards to win a $25,000 prize. The funniest moment, by far, was when T-Top attempted to slam dunk on Shotgun Shug and nearly fell over. I’m cackling as I type this.
Lil Duval’s Second Cypher Appearance Was One Hilarious Line Over And Over
Lil Duval actually appeared in two cyphers that night, and if you think his Comedy Cypher verse was funny, you’ll find his other cypher appearance absolutely side-splitting. Appearing in a cypher with heavyweight lyricists like Lil Kim and Iman Shumpter, you’d be forgiven for thinking that he’d take it serious. He didn’t. Instead, he kept repeating a rather naughty wish to view some exposed body parts. His delivery of the bar, over and over again, just takes you out when listening.
