Beauty: How to Be Well Red

Yes, every year the fashion mags choose a season and declare that it's all about red lips. But unless you're hanging out in Christina Aguilera's makeup case, the red revolution tends not to get much play in real life. But if the puckers of women on the street, on runways and walking red carpet are any indications, that  is all about to change.
Now, before you run back to the comforting safety of your barely there brown gloss, here are two reasons to see red:
1. When diamonds are scarce and the fur is in the shop, red lips are the easiest way to top off a fancy, night out look.
2. Your jeans and more casual outfits can feel special, too, when you pair them with a deeper, daring red.
Once you decide to go red, a few rules: If you normally are makeup-free, red lips can feel like a shock. So either use your finger to lightly dab color on from a lipstick tube, slick on a light gloss, or keep the rest of your makeup as minimal as black liner and a single coat of mascara. Should you play with a bold matte or Marilyn Monroe tomato red, prevent bleeding by lining lips first with a liner the same shade as your lipstick. Then fill in the color with your lipstick very carefully.
Now head out, get ready to leave your mark on more than a few wineglasses, napkins and collars and take a break from the blahs of winter.
