Westgate CEO Threatens Lay-Offs If Obama Is Reelected
David Siegel, the multimillionaire founder and CEO of Westgate Resorts, sent out an email to his 7,000 employees threatening to lay them off if President Obama is re-elected in November. He writes that although their jobs are currently secure, things might have to change if Obama stays in the White for another four years. While he states that he can't force anyone to vote one way or another, the Republican does hint at the threat of getting laid off if they don't side with Mitt Romney's campaign.
In the letter, which is very similar to a chain letter that has been around since 2008, Siegel writes:
"So where am I going with all this? It's quite simple. If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of the company. Rather than grow this company, I will be forced to cut back. This means fewer jobs, less benefits and certainly less opportunity for everyone.
So, when you make your decision to vote, ask yourself, which candidate understands the economics of business ownership and who doesn't? Whose policies will endanger your job? Answer those questions and you should know who might be the one capable of protecting and saving your job."
Siegel is obviously against the hits against those who occupy the cushy 1 percent in America. Not only is he the head of the largest resort developers, but he and his wife had plans to build a $75 million, 90,000 square foot mansion that had to be halted due to 2009's economic recession. Months ago, construction restarted on the Palace of Versailles-inspired home.
Or perhaps he hopes to repeat history as Siegel has claimed to have helped former President George W. Bush get into the White House in 2000 by having his managers "do a survey on every employee [8,000 total]. If they liked Bush, we made them register to vote. But not if they liked Gore."
