Tory Lanez Maintains His Innocence After Receiving 10-Year Sentence for Megan Thee Stallion Shooting
Tory Lanez is maintaining his innocence after being sentenced to ten years in prison. The rapper was convicted on three felony charges, including felony assault, in the shooting case of rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
In a lengthy memo shared to his Instagram account, the Canadian rapper addressed his supporters stating, "I have never let a hard time intimidate me. I will never never let no jail time eliminate me. Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence, and I always will.”
Lanez spoke about facing adversity his entire life, saying that “every time it looked like I would lose, I came out on top.” The rapper asserted that the recent ruling “is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall and I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious.”
The 31-year-old added, "Tough times don't last, tough people do," before thanking his family, friends, and fans for their continued support. He signed off, “See you soon.”
In 2020, the rapper, born Daystar Peterson, was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office on three felony counts in connection to the shooting of the “Savage” rapper. The counts included assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Lanez pleaded not guilty and was ultimately convicted on all three charges. Following several delays and a two-day hearing, he was sentenced to ten years. But prosecutors had initially sought a conviction of 13 years.
