DJ Holiday Plans Holiday Season 4.5 Mixtape
With the BET Hip Hop Awards 2011 taking over the city of Atlanta this past weekend, resident turntablist DJ Holiday served as the official house DJ of the award show. Now that the Atlanta native has successfully fullfilled his obligations as the award show DJ, BET.com caught up with him before he returns his focus to more than a few projects he has in the works, including a proposed Holiday Season 4.5 mixtape that would include a select handful of songs that weren't ready in time to be included on the recently released Holiday Season 4 tape.
Holiday explains that he was under a lot of pressure to get the mixtape out after it was delayed a few months earlier this summer after suffering numerous setbacks including clearance issues and the leak of "First Class," a track featuring B.o.B, Big Sean and Wale.
"I caught a lot of backlash," explains Holiday. "'First Class'" got leaked. That put a hold on [Holiday Season 4] and you know just dealing with rappers. Sometimes when you're trying to put together a special project, if your heart is in it you want to make sure everything is on point and I'm just a perfectionist at what I do. I'm all about presentation of product so pushing it back was really on me because of so many different little things that was working wrong and the music wasn't right… I didn't even want to put it out when I did but I had to because the fans kept hounding me and hounding me about it. So, I just put it out and people received it, it got something like over a million downloads and everybody's been tweeting me to let me know they liked it and I appreciate that."
The delayed songs, which include one with Curren$y, another with Killer Mike and Alley Boy, as well as one with Kendrick Lamar, will not go to waste as Holiday preps them for a five-track follow-up Holiday Season 4.5.
"I wasn't disappointed but I was upset," says Holiday of his latest mixtape. "I just felt like it couldn't been way better in my eyes. From what I knew I had painted a picture in my head. I've got some songs that I'm working on from Killer Mike and Alley Boy, another with Kendrick Lamar and one with Yo Gotti and Wiz Khalifa- it's crazy. I'm going to put all that together and for Holiday Season 4.5."
In addition to these projects the mixtape king, who has been designated by Diddy as an official Ciroc Boy for his skills at starting and keeping the party going, plans to shoot videos for the Travis Porter and Webbie song "Want This" and the "First Class" song that leaked, in an attempt to make up for the release's imperfections- but he won't rest there.
"I'm also working on something with Red Cafe, Triple C's and a few secret surprises in the works," shares Holiday. "It's coming but I'm going to leave it up to your imagination."
