‘Missing’ Ex-NFL-Player Sergio Brown Reportedly Resurfaces In Mexico Amid Mother's Mysterious Death
Sergio Brown, a former NFL player who seemingly went missing after his mother Myrtle Simmons-Brown was found dead in a creek near her home in suburban Chicago, has reportedly surfaced in Mexico, the New York Post reports.
In a cryptic video posted to his Instagram stories, which may possibly be a burner account, Brown claims that he thought his mother was on vacation and that law enforcement had kidnapped him.
“It had to be the FBI or the Maywood police,” Brown said. “I thought my f–kin’ momma was on vacation.”
In another Instagram story, listed his location as Sydney, Australia, and shared characters from the movie Finding Nemo.
On Tuesday (September 19), the Maywood, Ill., Police Department said that the social media videos have been brought to their attention and “are looking into their authenticity.”
“Maywood Police Department detectives are aware of a video that has surfaced on social media in relation to Mr. Sergio Brown, who is still considered a missing person, and are also looking into its authenticity,” said Carmen Rivera, public information officer of the Maywood Police Department.
An autopsy conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Simmons-Brown died “from multiple injuries related to assault and her manner of death was homicide.”
"Upon conducting a second and wider search of the area, Myrtle Brown was discovered unresponsive near a creek to the rear of her residence," the police wrote in a press release at the time.
Brown and his mother were both reported missing on Saturday (September 16) and a search was launched throughout Maywood and the surrounding areas which led to the discovery of Simmons-Brown's body.
He has not been named a suspect or a person of interest in his mother’s death,
According to a neighbor, Brown, who lived with his mother, had exhibited strange behavior for several months.
“They see him taking out the trash, and they see him have a bonfire where he burned all her clothes,” Carlos Cortez said. He also claimed that relatives of Brown said that he was “out of his mind.”
Before his retirement in 2016, Brown played safety in the NFL for seven seasons with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills.
