7 The Weeknd Songs to Help You Cry in the Shower
If you've ever found yourself hunkered down in the bathtub naked and weeping, you're not alone, you big baby. But while you most likely already knew this, it might help to also know that there have been numerous studies aimed at discovering just why it's so cathartic to let those cleansing tears flow while a heavenly gush emanates from the shower head.
Although there is not much hard data on the relationship between washing and crying, as New York Magazine's Alice Robb reports, psychologists have their theories. Randolph Cornelius, a psychology professor and co-editor of Adult Crying, believes that humans developed the ability to cry as a way to send social messages to others. In an email, Cornelius writes, “I believe that emotional crying, which only humans appear to do, evolved to signal our vulnerability and to solicit help.”
Be that as it may, there's no doubt that most people prefer to let their tears fall freely when behind close doors. And there's no better place in which to completely wild out with the feels than in your own bathroom. Especially if your cry-face looks anything like John Mayer's sing-face, which is weird and borderline offensive. In that case, you'd be doing everyone a solid by keeping that river of emotion at bay until you're solo dolo.
Whatever your bag, this truth remains: we could all benefit from a good, hard cry now and again. According to neuroscientist and tear researcher Dr. William H. Frey II, PhD, “Crying is not only a human response to sorrow and frustration, it's a healthy one.” So cast aside that thuggish exterior for a while and let loose.
