Michael And Martellus Bennett Protested During The National Anthem Before The Seahawks-Packers Game
Last month, Michael Bennett announced that he would sit during the national anthem before games for the entire 2017 NFL season as a stance against racial inequality and oppression.
The fact that the Seattle Seahawks star defensive end was threatened by Las Vegas police following the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Conor McGregor fight just weeks later, made Bennett's decision all the more personal, while proving he must continue to use his platform to protest against injustices like the one he disturbingly had to endure.
That being said, Bennett sat during the national anthem Sunday before his Seahawks played the Green Bay Packers and his white teammate, Seahawks center Justin Britt, continued to drape his hand over his shoulder in support of the defensive end. But across the American flag that covered Lambeau Field stood Bennett's brother, Green Bay Packers tight end Martellus Bennett, raising his fist as a form of solidarity for his brother and sharing Michael's stance.
Football fans and well beyond definitely took notice of the powerful moment.
