Braxton Tag Team: Toni And Towanda’s Exes Are Fighting Back Against The Famous Sisters For Portraying Their Men As ‘Villains’
Two of the Braxton sisters' exes are coming forward against them after the most famous of the bunch, Toni Braxton, shared her thoughts on alimony and how she felt when she was forced to pay her now ex-husband, Keri Lewis, after their divorce.
According to theJasmineBRAND.com, after the "Breathe Again" singer boldly stated that "men are the new b*****s" in response to being ordered to pay alimony to Lewis, he fired back in a lengthy Instagram post, detailing what really led to him being granted alimony.
After denying that he came for the singer's finances and wasn't there for her when she needed him, Lewis outlined that after her attorneys drafted a prenuptial agreement prior to their marriage, he didn't recruit legal counsel as he "wasn't going to contest anything in the prenup."
"Fast-forward to 2012 after separating, I moved out and at some point later, Toni mentioned to me that the payments set in the prenup would start being deposited into my account," he wrote. "I received alimony for around 3 years between 2012 and 2014. I didn't even use an attorney in our divorce (I also don't recommend that to anyone),"
After Lewis cleared his name, Towanda Braxton's ex-husband, Andre Carter, chimed in, echoing Lewis' sentiments that the ladies notoriously paints a negative image of their exes on television after the dissolving of their relationships.
"Keri...brother I understand completely!" he wrote. "My divorce with Towanda was almost the exact same but on a much smaller scale. The same as you, I did not have an attorney in my divorce. But there was no prenuptial signed. I asked for nothing, absolutely nothing, during the proceedings. Even the judge questioned me directly about my decision to not ask for anything."
He went on to point out that, despite him not requesting a dime from his reality TV-famous ex-wife, he "was portrayed as the one who attempted to take everything" from her on their family reality series, Braxton Family Values.
Towanda and Andre got married in 2004 and called it quits after 12 years of marriage. The former filed divorce papers in August of 2016 and the two officially reached a settlement a year later, outlining that they would keep their individual checking, savings, and retirement accounts, and both receive joint custody of their two children. Unlike Toni and Keri, neither of them had to pay alimony or child support.
