A$AP Rocky may have a promising second career as an actor, according to director Rick Famuyiwa. The filmmaker worked with Rocky in his debut film, Dope, a comedy about high school outcasts in a rough Los Angeles neighborhood.
“He’s a great actor and he’s a natural,” Famuyiwa tells Page Six. “He has instincts and makes choices like actors who have been doing it a very long time. I always feel like rappers, emcees, musicians, they perform, they have a charisma. It doesn’t always translate to film, and many people try to make that transition, but he actually has the goods. If it’s something he wants to focus on, which he may not, I think he has a bright future.”
The film, which also stars Zoe Kravitz, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past weekend and quickly became the hottest title at the fest with no fewer than six distributors fighting to buy it.

Famuyiwa previously helmed Black rom-com classics The Wood and Brown Sugar.
