Three Shot at Cookout on Delaware State University Campus
Three people were shot at a cookout on the Delaware State University campus, officials for the school have confirmed. University president Harry L. Williams said in a statement, the shooting happened at about 8 p.m. Saturday (April 18) at a school-sanctioned fraternity and sorority cookout.
According to Williams, the wounded were taken to Kent General Hospital in Dover with injuries not life-threatening. Their names have not been released, and it is not yet known if they were university students or guests.
After the incident, students were told to go to the dormitories and non-students to leave campus. "The safety of our students continues to be paramount and our police will aggressively continue their investigation until an arrest or arrests are made in this shooting incident," Williams said, adding that an investigation is underway.
No arrests were made as of late Saturday after a search of campus and surrounding areas. This is the second shooting incident in the past year on the DSU campus, a historically Black university. Last November, a man was shot at a residence hall near the campus. Two were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
