Report: Alcohol and Xanax Suspected in Whitney Houston Death
While news has been circulating that the sudden death of singing great Whitney Houston was related to a possible drowning, preliminary evidence from the coroner’s office show that Houston may have died from a lethal cocktail of anti-anxiety medication and alcohol — not drowning.
TMZ reports that L.A. County Coroner officials have informed Houston's family members that an insufficient amount of water was discovered in the singer's lungs for the cause of death to have been drowning.
Houston, who died on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, was discovered by her aunt submerged in her bathtub. Doctors found alcohol, the prescription drug Xanax and other medications in her system, which may have killed her before she slipped beneath the surface of the water, according to TMZ.
The official cause of death has not yet been announced, with a full toxicology report still pending.
Many of music's top stars turned out last night to pay tribute to Houston at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
