The Weeknd Has Michael Jackson's 1984 Tour Jacket
If there's a Battle Vocale going on for which singer most resembles The King of Pop, The Weeknd just got Victory.
The "Earned It" crooner was gifted an official Michael Jackson tour jacket, after a series of his own back-to-back 'Madness Fall' shows this past week at the Barclays Center.
"Thank you BARCLAYS," Weeknd wrote via Instagram, captioning a pic of himself holding up the merchandise. The jacket was signed by all The Jacksons and worn by MJ himself during their 1984 Victory Tour.
The jaunt was the first and only tour for which all six of the brothers were present. 1984 was also the year that MJ was recognized by President Ronald Reagan at the White House for his humanitarian efforts, and the year of the infamous Pepsi incident. Don King was the tour promoter, and Thriller and Off the Wall were on the set list.
"These kids, you know, they don’t have a Michael Jackson," Weeknd recently told the New York Times. "They don’t have a Prince. They don’t have a Whitney. Who else is there? Who else can really do it at this point?"
Though Prince can still really do it, Weeknd has a point. His latest album, Beauty Behind the Madness sat atop the Billboard 200 for three consecutive weeks (the first since Taylor Swift's 1989 to do so), and broke the Top 10 in more than ten countries.
His Madness Fall Tour hits The Staples Center next, on Dec. 4.
