Nicki Minaj grabbed her best pink wig and lipstick and rocked a 1950's-inspired tank and jacket from Prada's Spring/Summer 2012 line to take on Wonderland magazine’s February/March 2012 cover.
Photographer Matt Irwin captured the rapper in her usual brand of cartoony facial expressions with more over-the-top accessories added for fun. This time she dressed in gigantic, crystal-detailed door-knocker earrings and a gold grill necklace, but for all her quirks in the spotlight, Nicki admitted she’s more “girl next door” when it comes to lounging at home.
"Obviously what I would wear at home is not what I would wear up on stage and I think, when I’m at home it’s a way more introspective character and I think the person people see on stage is anything but,” she said (adding she watches a lot of Judge Judy and cooks “really good”).
She also elaborated on her infamous Barbie obsession and it’s not as superficial as you might think. “I feel like Barbie is great because it doesn’t only focus on beauty — you have Barbies that work, they have tons of different jobs now,” she said. “And they come in different shades, which I love, and different hairstyles. So I think that they’ve gotten to the point where they’re making girls feel like it’s OK not to look like or be like the traditional Barbie. Now in terms of a body image, even male action figure dolls are cut up more than the average man — it’s just how people make dolls!”
Prepare to see much more of Nicki as she promotes her next album, PF: Roman Reloaded, currently due in stores in April. This weekend the Young Money rapper will hit the Superbowl 2012 stage to perform “Give Me All Your Love” with Madonna and MIA and she'll rock the Grammys for the first time on February 12.
