Hunger Games actress Elizabeth Banks had a case of foot-in-mouth recently as she accused famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg of excluding women from lead roles in his movies.

After her premature comments made their way to the internet, Black Twitter, in particular, wasted no time in educating her on the Spielberg-directed masterpiece that is The Color Purple, led by a majority African-American female cast.

According to The Wrap, Banks singled out Spielberg while making an argument that there is a lack of female representation in the film industry.

"I went to see Indiana Jones and Jaws and every movie Steven Spielberg ever made, and by the way, he's never made a movie with a female lead," she said while accepting an award from the non-profit group Women in Film.

The actress's comments were met with a hefty dose of criticism as she was reminded that the Oscar-nominated The Color Purple featured the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg and Margaret Avery all in leading roles.

That's not all, folks. Making matters worse, columnist Anne Thompson claimed that the film, which made its way to the Broadway stage, was one of the earliest "flops" of Spielberg's career.
