Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck Debate Abortion Rights on The View
The View brought a reunion and a battle between former co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and guest host Elisabeth Hasselbeck who sparred over the recent Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.
Newsweek reported on the blow-by-blow between the former talk show colleagues. Insisting that God would "support abortion rights," Goldberg mixed it up with Hasselbeck, who is best known as The View's conservative voice from 2003 through 2013 before later becoming a host on Fox & Friends.
Urging viewers to find non-profits that can "help you create a birth plan and match you with an adoptive family," Hasselbeck argued, "What about the life in the womb? I will say this, that life has a plan and a purpose designed by God." she said.
Goldberg said she thinks, "God made us smart enough to know when it wasn't going to work for us. That's the beauty of giving us freedom of choice."
Despite Goldberg and Hasselbeck having "the best conversations" despite their disparate political viewpoints, the segment was a heated one. Goldberg made a point to close the segment with the disclaimer: "Just before we go, no one at this table is not pro-life. I just want to make sure we all know that. Nobody is happy about going to get an abortion. That's not pro-life. It's not fun."
Hasselbeck ultimately took the last word, telling viewers, "It's a hard, hard decision, but that life has a plan and a purpose, and there are absolutely agencies out there that will help you keep that baby alive."
