Simone Biles Makes Olympic History Clinching Second Gold Medal in Individual All-Around
Simone Biles etched her name in the annals of history by clinching the gold in the individual all-around final at the 2024 Paris Summer Games on Thursday. This remarkable achievement makes her only the third woman ever to win the women's individual all-around title twice, following in the footsteps of legends Larisa Latynina (1956 and 1960) and Věra Čáslavská (1964 and 1968).
Biles started strong with a massive 15.766 on vault but briefly slipped to second after a mistake on uneven bars. She then delivered stellar performances on beam and floor, securing her second all-around gold medal.
Suni Lee, overcoming kidney issues, impressed with top scores on bars (14.866) and strong routines on vault and beam. She secured an Olympic all-around medal for the second consecutive Games, becoming the first former gold medalist to return to the podium since Nadia Comaneci in 1980.
Biles is the first woman to win non-consecutive Olympic gold medals in the event. Earlier this week, Team USA captured the gold medal in the team event.
