Laila Ali Says It's 'Wonderful' That Colin Kaepernick Got The Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, But Isn't Calling Him The 'Modern-Day Ali'
Like many, Laila Ali thought Colin Kaepernick being the recipient of Sports Illustrated's Muhammad Ali Legacy Award was well-deserved.
"Isn't that wonderful?" Laila told TMZ Sports when asked about the honor that the woke, free-agent quarterback received earlier in the week. "He has my 100 percent stamp of approval."
Just don't tell her anything about Kaepernick being the modern-day version of her father — a label many have put on the QB.
Laila isn't willing to put that label on the 30-year-old, despite his 2016 NFL season kneeling as a protest against racism and the police brutality of unarmed Black men or the fact that Kaepernick is donating $1 million of his own money to the communities that need it most.
When TMZ asked if she agrees with people calling Kaepernick the "modern-day Muhammad Ali," Laila took a good look at the cameraman, paused, smirked and said, "I think it's good he got the award, though."
Take a look at the moment below.
What do you think about Laila praising Kaepernick as the recipient of the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award, but being unwilling to call him the modern-day version of her dad?
