Adjani Salmon Wins 2022 BAFTA Award For ‘Dreaming Whilst Black’

The filmmaker took home the Emerging Talent: Fiction award

Adjani Salmon won in the Emerging Talent: Fiction category Sunday (April 24) for his Dreaming Whilst Black at the 2022 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award ceremony.

The Jamaican filmmaker’s comedy web series went from a nine-episode YouTube series in 2018 to a TV series on BBC, Vice reported. The series is about Kwabena Robinson (played by Salmon), working as a runner on various film sets in London, grappling with bad dates and a family who want him to choose a more stable career before deciding to write his own film.

At the Royal Television Society awards in March,  Salmon spoke about his peers honoring him and getting Dreaming Whilst Black on TV.

“It’s humbling. Honestly, it’s amazing to be celebrated by my peers and fellow artists. I’m still processing what it means,” he said.
