Obama's Slow Jam

Thanks to the president, watching the news will never be the same again.

President Obama rocked the house on NBC's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon show last night during an appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon taped before a live audience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With Fallon as backup and soulful beats laid down by Late Night’s in-house band the Roots, Obama slow jammed his theme of the week — preventing an increase in Stafford student loan interest rates from 3.4 to 6.8 percent.

Slow jammin’ the news is a regular segment on the show during which Fallon or a guest riffs on a serious topic. The comedian and the “Preezy of the United Steezy,” as Obama’s referred to in their song, managed to turn their subject into comedy gold, while still making the point.

Congressional leaders say they support keeping student loan rates low and are looking for ways to pay for it. It’s also one of the few things on which Obama and his chief Republican opponent Mitt Romney can agree. So the real question is whether Romney, who sang “America the Beautiful” at a campaign event after Obama showed some skills at the Apollo earlier this year, can top this.

The conventional wisdom? Pell no!
