Box Office: Big Hero 6 Beats Out Interstellar
Animated adventures beat space travel at the weekend box office. Big Hero 6 won the box office with a whopping $56.2 million in ticket sales. The family-friendly flick, starring the voices of Damon Wayans Jr., Jamie Chung and more, is the latest in a string of hits from Disney Animation Studios after the success of Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph.
Coming in second place was Interstellar, Christopher Nolan's awards contender starring Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, which earned a respectable $50 million with a five-day debut of $52.2 million.
Now that some of the Halloween fare has cleared the top five, Ben Affleck's Gone Girl crept back up the chart to take third place with $6.1 million. The film, based on the bestselling novel of the same name, boasts a gripping story, noteworthy performances and a juicy cameo from Tyler Perry.
Rounding out the top five were the horror film Ouija and Bill Murray-led comedy St. Vincent (also starring Terrence Howard) which brought in $6 million and $5.7 million, respectively.
Next week, Beyond the Lights, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, storms into theaters everywhere. Awards contender Foxcatcher, starring Channing Tatum and Steve Carrell, will also be out in limited release.
