Tiger Woods’ Former Caddie Apologizes for Racist Remark

Steve Williams’ offensive comment directed at Tiger upsets golf enthusiasts.

Steve Williams, Tiger Woods’ caddie for more than a decade, apologized for making a racist remark about his former boss at an awards dinner in China last night.
According to the Daily Mail, Williams was given an award for the year’s best celebration.  Last August, Williams called Adam Scott’s victory at the Bridgestone Invitational "the best win of [his] career," despite having won 13 majors with Woods. Why the huge celebration? Williams says, "It was my aim to shove it right up that black a------."
The Daily Mail also reports that one caddie who attended the dinner said: “Never have you been in a room and seen so many jaws drop at the same time. We knew he was an idiot but we didn’t know he was a racist idiot.’”

The remark may have been a result of Williams’ and Woods’ split last summer. "I was absolutely shocked that I got the boot to be honest with you," Williams said in a New Zealand television interview. "I've caddied for the guy for 12 years, I've been incredibly loyal to the guy and I got short-shifted."

Williams, who could face a long ban, apologized by saying: “I now realize how my comments could be construed as racist. However I assure you that was not my intent. I sincerely apologize to Tiger and anyone else I have offended."
