Mary J. Blige Rocks the Tribeca Film Festival
New York showed Mary J. Blige some real love on Thursday night. The R&B icon thrilled audiences at the Beacon Theater with a screening of her documentary, The London Sessions, followed by a live performance of some new songs and past hits.
The documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the recording of Blige's latest album, of the same name, over ten days in the British capital. The London Sessions peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts after its release last November and was met with critical acclaim. The doc featured Mary working with some of the hottest British talent of today like Sam Smith, Emeli Sandé and Disclosure. Plus, it showed Mary's life in London, including a meeting with the father of the late Amy Winehouse, one of the film's most emotional moments.

After the doc, Mary hit the stage and belted out "Therapy" to a loving audience. "Being here at Tribeca Film Festival means more to me than you can imagine," Blige told the crowd. Her pitch-perfect voice sang other songs from The London Sessions, but when she prepped the Beacon for "Mary classics," the theater roared. She went to church with "No More Drama," gave us a heartfelt rendition of U2's hit "One" and closed with "Family Affair."
Over the course of a couple hours, the legendary Blige reinforced why she is still the Queen of Hip Hop Soul.
