Lil Wayne Extends Cash Money Deal

Weezy signs on for four more albums with his long-time label home.

Young Money, Cash Money, more money.

Lil Wayne has inked a deal with Cash Money to release another four albums under his Young Money imprint. Considering how successful their last endeavor, 2011's chart-ruling Tha Carter IV, was, the extension only makes sense — not to mention cents.

Wayne broke the news during an interview with MTV, discussing both the details of his future releases and his contract with the label. As reported here earlier, Wayne is preparing to release a sequel to his 2010 album I Am Not a Human Being later this year. “Contract-wise, I only get paid for 12 songs," he said. "On a Carter album, you probably only gonna get 12 songs, maybe a bonus 13. But on this I Am Not a Human Being thing, I don’t really care … you’re probably gonna get 16 on there.”

Wayne also revealed that he's working on an album of love songs. "I was also recording an album at the same time called Devol, spelled D-E-V-O-L because that's 'loved' spelled backwards," Weezy told host Amanda Seales. "And this is my version of love songs. And what I mean by my version of love songs is meaning they're not saying I love you... It's all material I did while I was locked up." Lil Wayne is also reportedly working on collaborative albums with Drake, Juelz Santana and Cash Money head Birdman, though it's unclear if these count towards his four-album obligation. Either way, the deal likely won't prevent Wayne's long-stated goal to retire at 35 (Tunechi's 29 years old).

It's crazy to think that rumors back in 2004 had Lil Wayne leaving the label he's been signed to since he was 11 for Def Jam. With several platinum and multiplatinum albums under his belt in the years since, and his Young Money imprint making good on its name thanks to signees Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga and others, it's clear: For Wayne, there's no place like home.
