Does Being Down With the Swirl Make White Men Feel Like Freedom Fighters?
Ah, Ann Coulter. Not one to be tactful, the conservative pundit is once again making headlines for her comments calling white men who have dated Black women "freedom riders."
What?
During an appearance on Fox & Friends Tuesday, Coulter, who is hawking her latest book, took aim at liberal pundits, accusing them of having few if any actual interpersonal relationships with "the Blacks" as she affectionately likes to call African-Americans.
"These are not people who have Black friends, who know Black people," she said of MSNBC hosts Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow. "Oh, sorry, except, you know, Lawrence O’Donnell and Bill Maher, who date Black gals. So they think they’re freedom riders."
Um, OK.
The commentator and syndicated columnist has helped push the Republican Party to the far right and forced it to stay there by making provocative comments and observations that are relished by those who consider themselves to be true conservatives.
In another interview, she made a point to also lament the state of the civil rights movement.
“Democrats are dropping the Blacks and moving on to the Hispanics,” she said Sunday on ABC's This Week. "There is a legacy of slavery and Jim Crow laws. We don’t owe the homeless. We don’t owe feminists. We don’t owe women who are desirous of abortions, or gays who want to get married to one another. That’s what civil rights has become for much of the left."
Such remarks are made under the guise that African-Americans and Latinos would be treated more equally and fairly under the GOP tent, but Coulter, who has confessed that she likes to "stir the pot," won't get far with that sort of rhetoric. It might help her sell some books, though.
