Man Escapes Prison and Runs Right Into His Worst Nightmare
A man named Kelvin Singleton, who was in a North Carolina prison for robbery and kidnapping charges, was found murdered by decapitation just two weeks after he broke free. Singleton (pictured above) had escaped from the Chowan County Detention Center by using a weapon he had fashioned out of a toothbrush to force a detention officer to release him. A short while later, though, he faced something far worse outside of the prison's bars.
The 26-year-old's body was found on April 7 in a field about 15 miles away from the prison, and despite the fact that his head is still missing, authorities were able to identify him as the victim.
Chowan County sheriff Dwayne Goodwin told New York Daily News, "We have interviewed a ton of people. We don't have a motive or anything at this point — no suspect, no motive."
Singleton was in prison for robbery and second-degree kidnapping charges after he held up a local tobacco store, holding the clerk at gunpoint. He was facing assault charges in another county as well.
Police have already checked with Singleton's grandmother and sister to make sure that they were not involved with his escape, and have since deemed that there is no evidence that he was "aided by anybody." Currently, it seems that police are running into roadblocks trying to find the perpetrator of this heinous crime.
