Social Media Reacts After PnB Rock's Alleged Shooter Found Unfit to Stand Trial
The suspect accused of shooting and killing rapper PnB Rock nearly two years ago has been found mentally unfit to stand trial.
Last Friday, a Los Angeles judge temporarily overseeing the unidentified man’s juvenile case declared him not yet competent to stand trial, Rolling Stone reports.
Commissioner Sharonda P. Bradford stated on July 26 at the Compton courthouse that despite receiving a range of services while in custody, experts say he still lacks the necessary competency to follow a criminal proceeding.
“The recommendation is that the previous orders remain,” Bradford said. “The proceedings remain suspended, remediation continues.”
The young man, whose identity is being withheld, is accused of walking into a Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles restaurant in South Los Angeles after being dropped off and firing multiple shots at the “Selfish” artist, whose real name is Rakim Allen, during a botched robbery on September 12, 2022. PnB Rock was 30 years old.
His fiancée, Stephanie Sibounheuang, was also present but did not sustain any life-threatening injuries.
The update has left fans of the Philly-born star furious, with many sharing their frustrations online. One X user commented, “He was competent enough to pull the trigger though.” Another person wrote, “He wasn’t lacking competence when he had a gun to take PnB Rock’s life! He knew EXACTLY what he was doing! STOP making EXCUSES for these killers!”
The accused’s father and stepmother, Freddie Trone and Shauntel Trone, are also facing charges as accessories after the fact in Rock’s murder.
In a nearby courtroom last week, the young man’s father pleaded not guilty to murder, robbery, and conspiracy, while Shauntel accepted a plea deal. A third man, Tremont Jones, pleaded not guilty to robbery, conspiracy, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
A follow-up hearing for the juvenile case is set for next month.
