Drake and Joe Budden Spar Online Over Criticism of New Album

The Canadian rapper responded to Budden's critical remarks about his latest album, “For All My Dogs.”

Drake’s “For All My Dogs” has been making waves on the internet since its Friday release (Oct. 6), and Joe Budden had some not-so-kind thoughts about the Canadian rapper’s eighth album.

In the latest episode of “The Joe Budden Podcast,” Budden said, “Drake is rapping for the children; I had to look up how old this n**ga was when I finished listening to the album...you gonna be 37 years old.”

“Get the f** away from some of these younger n**gas, and stop fucking these 25-year-olds. Why are you still fucking the 25-year-olds? You’re a 37-year-old billionaire.”

Budden drew parallels between Drake's career trajectory and that of J. Cole’s: “Cole used to rap about kid shit...and then he started to grow up, and then the rapping sounded like adult rapping,” Budden said. “I want to hear adult Drake rapping for adult people. That’s my issue with him today.”

Drake replied to the clip on DJ Akademiks’ Instagram page with a scathing, now-viral response to Budden.

"@joebudden you have failed at music,” Drake begins. “You left it behind to do what you are doing in this clip cause this is what actually pays your bills.”

“You retired and we never hung up your jersey we don’t even remember your number. We know you for doing this…you withdrew from rap not cause you accomplished all you need to it’s cause it wasn’t working for you.”

Budden responded directly to Drizzy’s lengthy attack in the comments: "@champagnepapi you'll grow up sooner or later. Father time is undefeated."

Despite Budden’s frequent praise for Drake on his podcast, the two artists have a contentious history: They’ve taken shots at each other in song, including Budden’s 2016 diss track “Afraid.”

"For All My Dogs" boasts a 23-track lineup and features collaborations with SZA, Bad Bunny, 21 Savage, J. Cole and Chief Keef, among others. The album includes a track rumored to contain lyrics aimed at dissing Rihanna, as reported by Page Six.
